Guwahati

Once known as "Pragiyotishpura" or Light of the East, the most striking feature of Guwahati (also spelt as Gauhati), is the Brahmaputra, whose swollen sandy channel is so wide that the far shore is often rendered invisible. Of its many mysterious temples, 'Kamakhya' and 'Navagraha' both occupy commanding positions on hilltops while 'Umananda' sits on a small island in the middle of the Brahmaputra.

Kamakhya Temple

The Kamakhya Temple in Assam is one of the most venerated Shakti shrines in India, and is regarded as one of the Shakti Peethams associated with the legend of Shiva and Daksha Yagna. Kamakhya is located on a hill - Neelachala Parvat or Kamagiri near the city of Guwahati in Assam. Assam traditionally has been known as the Kamarupa Desa and has been associated with Tantric practices and Shakti worship.

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park lies partly in Golaghat District and partly in Nagaon District of Assam. Kaziranga National Park a world heritage site is famous for the Great Indian one horned rhinoceros, the landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes & shallow pools. It has been declared as National Park in 1974.

Brahmaputra river cruises

Sualkuchi

Sualkuchi is one of the world's largest weaving villages often called the Manchester of the East. This silk town of the East produces three unique varieties of silks, the Golden Muga, the White Pat and the warm Eri. Silks grown all over the state find their way to Sualkuchi, 32 kms from Guwahati.

Majuli

Majuli, the world's largest river island is situated in the midst of river Brahmaputra, is the centre of Vishnava culture in Assam. There are nearly twenty two Vaishnava monasteries or satras in Majuli. The major satras are Kamalabari, Natun Kamalabari, Auniati, Garmur, Samoguri, Dakhinpat and Bengenaati.

Sibsagar

Sibsagar is situated at a distance of 369 kms from Guwahati. The highest Shiva temple in India, situated in the heart of Sibsagar. Six kilometers from Sibsagar town is another monument, the Kareng Ghar and Talatal Ghar.
